Band Together NC Announces Music Lineup for May 22 Charity Concert

Franti, One eskimO, The Old Ceremony, Holy Ghost Tent Revival and Anoop Desai to Perform

RALEIGH, NC, May 07, 2010 /Nonprofit PR News/ -- Downtown Raleigh will surely be rockin' on May 22 as Band Together NC stages its tenth annual charity concert outside and inside Lincoln Theatre at 126 E. Cabarrus Street. Anticipation is very high for this year's show headlined by Michael Franti & Spearhead, recently on tour with John Mayer. Tickets for the event are just $22 in advance or $25 on day of show, and can be purchased through www.bandtogethernc.org.

Through a career spanning nearly 25 years, Franti has incorporated diverse musical influences such as reggae, hip hop, funk, jazz, folk and rock into his music. The band's song "Say Hey (I Love You)" was a hit in multiple formats last year, and its various versions have exceeded 5 million views on YouTube.

Doors will open at 5 p.m. for this 21-and-older event. Attendees will be in for a special treat this year. "American Idol" finalist Anoop Desai will appear inside Lincoln Theatre to perform songs from his new album "All is Fair."

Supporting acts for this year's Band Together event include One eskimO and The Old Ceremony, with a late-night after-show party inside Lincoln Theatre with Holy Ghost Tent Revival.

London-based indie rock band One eskimO is generating a lot of buzz for the song "Kandi" and has toured with Tori Amos. Formed in Chapel Hill six years ago by guitarist Django Haskins, The Old Ceremony has released four albums (including a remix album) that have drawn rave reviews for their rich, textured songs. Hailing from Greensboro, Holy Ghost Tent Revival is a six-piece ensemble that melds brass, banjo, guitar, bass, drums and keyboard to create joyous, toe-tapping music.

Band Together NC is a nonprofit organization that uses musical events to raise funds and awareness for select Triangle charities. Proceeds from this year's event will benefit StepUP Ministry, an interfaith nonprofit organization that teaches low-income and homeless people to become self-sufficient. Presenting sponsors for 2010 are Cargill, Hosted Solutions, S&A Cherokee and the A.J. Fletcher Foundation. More than $300,000 has been raised so far this year, with Band Together generating $203,000 in pledges, StepUP matching with an additional $85,000, and various companies providing $49,000 in in-kind donations.

"This event is shaping up to be our biggest and best ever," said Danny Rosin, president and co-founder of Band Together. "We have over 100 sponsors and are hoping to draw more than 3,500 attendees to the event to enjoy great music, a silent auction, raffle and, more importantly, do something powerful for the community."
