Gulf Give RVA: Young Richmonders Host Benefit Concert to Raise Money for Gulf Relief Efforts
Three young Richmonders plan a benefit concert to help BP Oil Spill clean up efforts
RICHMOND, VA, June 27, 2010 /Nonprofit PR News/ -- A group of young Richmonders and Legend Brewing Company are pleased to announce "Gulf Give RVA," a benefit concert on Thursday July 15, 2010 at Legend Brewing Company. Proceeds from the benefit will go directly to the Gulf Restoration Network, a diverse 15-year old environmental non-profit network of local, regional and national groups and individuals exclusively dedicated to protecting and restoring the natural resources of the Gulf of Mexico. The GRN has members in five Gulf
states: Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida and Texas. GRN is independent monitoring and advocacy are critical to efforts to respond to the current oil spill crisis. (http://www.healthygulf.org)
Beloved local band No BS! Brass will headline the event, supported by other local musicians. With strong roots to the New Orleans jazz movement, the music of No BS! Brass will serve as a powerful backdrop for an evening dedicated to an important cause.
The event will also feature raffle items and an open invitation for donations to the Gulf Restoration Network.
The idea to host a benefit was conceived and executed by Richmonder Arielle Goldman, 25. "Gulf "Give RVA came about when I donated some money to the gulf relief efforts. It was discouraging to be able to give so little in the face of such a big disaster, and I knew that other people in Richmond must feel the same way," said Goldman. "I thought that if we could get the community together and each give as much or as little as we could afford, our individual efforts would become a part of something greater."
Goldman was quickly joined by Caroline Gibson, 26 and Beth Petty, 26. The young women began promoting the event via word of mouth and social media outlets in hopes of garnering robust support and attendance from the Richmond community. "Richmond has learned to harness the power of social media for good. We are excited to introduce such a meaningful and important cause to our community, and do whatever we can on the East Coast to help our friends and family on the Gulf Coast," said Gibson.
Building on Richmond' s strong commitment to charity and advocacy, Gulf Give RVA gives the community a chance to network for a good cause. "Richmond is both a very philanthropic town, as well as a social one," said Petty. "We are giving people the opportunity to give what they can to help the relief efforts in the Gulf of Mexico. And there is nothing Richmonders like more than to eat, drink, and be merry for a good cause"
"The response from the community has been absolutely inspiring," said Goldman. "People want to help, and Gulf Give RVA is giving them an opportunity."
Gulf Give RVA will take place Thursday July 15, 2010 from 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM at Legend Brewing Company (www.legendbrewing.com, 321 West 7th Street, Richmond, VA 23224). $10 suggested donation.
