East Harlem non-profit uses gorilla marketing and a sense of humor to get resources for those in need

In this brave new media world the playfield is leveled for small non-profits, if you're willing to go the extra mile.

EAST HARLEM, NY, July 09, 2010 /Nonprofit PR News/ -- In this brave new media world the playfield is leveled for small non-profits, if you're willing to go the extra mile. One month ago the modest staff of The Nourishing Kitchen of New York City, a community food program located in East Harlem, was thrilled to learn of their status as a finalist for the Post Cereal Grant for Good Health. The winner was to be selected by popular vote, a trend utilized by corporate giving campaigns including Pepsi Co. and Chase Community Giving. Through a diverse campaign that utilizes Face Book, You Tube, and even the burgeoning Four Square the staff has engaged the New York City public and taken the lead. Now, with only a week to go, the staff is taking to the streets. The Executive Director, Gina Puzzanghera, has committed to a tour of popular New York City spots wearing a Chewbacca costume to raise awareness (yes, even in this heat). Puzzanghera has this to say about the campaign "We're honed to be top ten in the country, and now we're coupling hard work and a sense of humor to channel this money into New York City."
