Barbara J. Downey Ovarian Cancer Foundation partners with Exceed for innovative fundraising program
The Barbara J. Downey Foundation, dedicated to fighting ovarian cancer, has partnered with Exceed which will donate $100 to the foundation each time a new member signs up for Exceed's free Homeowner Advantage USA program.
FORT MYERS, FL, October 16, 2010 /Nonprofit PR News/ -- The Barbara J. Downey Foundation, a newly established organization dedicated to fighting ovarian cancer, announced a partnership with Exceed's Homeowner Advantage USA program. The program rewards donors with $300 to $2,000 in non-expiring gift cards to seven major retail establishments. For each new member who signs up for the free program, the Barbara J. Downey Foundation will receive $100 from Exceed.
Created by four siblings in honor of their mother, Barbara J. Downey, who passed away from ovarian cancer in 2009, the foundation will identify and assist women who are undergoing treatment for ovarian cancer who cannot afford the medical bills associated with their treatment. The American Cancer Society reports that ovarian cancer is the leading cause of death from gynecologic cancers in the U.S. and the fifth leading cause of cancer death among U.S. women. They estimate that more than 21,000 women are diagnosed each year and that more than 15,000 may die from the disease which can strike without warning or cause.
To qualify for the Homeowner Advantage USA program, one needs to own a home with a current market value of at least $100,000 and have sufficient equity in the home. Next, the member chooses locally from thousands of participating Realtors in the network of leading firms. If a member ever decides to sell their home, they select their initial choice or another one listed in the network. Finally, members choose which retailer-issued gift card they would like to receive - a new gift card is issued during each of the next five years and can be changed from year to year. The amount of free gift cards received up to $2,000 is based on the current market value of the home. Participating retailers are Target, Home Depot, Best Buy, Shell, Amazon, Macy's and Walmart.
"My brothers and sister and I have evaluated many programs and feel that Exceed is the best option to help thank donors for their support," said Brian J. Downey, director of the Foundation and a Southwest Florida attorney specializing in financial and estate matters. "Exceed offers a unique way to benefit those who are giving so generously to help find a way to eradicate this insidious disease."
The Barbara J. Downey Foundation is based in Bonita Springs, Fla. and Fort Wayne, Ind. For more information visit: http://downey.homeowneradvantageusa.com or call 239.254.7917.
