Scott Wells Honored by Cambridge Who's Who

Scott Wells recognized for invaluable services in the field of disability assistance

SHREVEPORT, LA, August 26, 2010 /Nonprofit PR News/ -- Scott Wells, Independent Living Specialist at the New Horizons Independent Living Center, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of his career.

Named Cambridge Publishing's 2010 VIP member, Scott Wells is distinguished for his extraordinary commitment to living assistance. He has dedicated the last 10 years to the field, lending the last three as Independent Living Specialist at New Horizons Independent Living Center, a nonprofit organization providing aid for disabled individuals. There, he joins the Center's mission, which reads "Enabling people with disabilities to live independently." He also oversees informational and referral processes, manages consumers' goals for independence, visits homes and conducts assessments.

In addition to his work with New Horizons, Mr. Wells is now in the process of starting a new nonprofit organization for the establishment of a specialized spinal cord and brain injury rehabilitation hospital in North Louisiana. Named Independence Regained, this organization aims "To Rehabilitate, Educate, and Integrate PEOPLE with Spinal Cord Injury, Traumatic Brain Injury, and other Neurological disorders back into all aspects of an INDEPENDENT Life." This mission holds a special place in Mr. Wells' heart, as he recovered from a spinal cord injury, himself, and can relate to others with related special needs.

Mr. Wells, a former torpedo technician for the United States Navy, lives by the motto: "Aspire to inspire before you expire." Crediting his success to his professional drive and intuitiveness, he sits on the Board of Directors of the Ark-La-Tex Chapter of ThinkFirst. He also maintains active affiliation with Paralyzed Veterans of America; the Board of Directors of the Medicaid Infrastructure Grant Council, the Mayor's Advisory Council in Shreveport, Louisiana, and the Academy of Spinal Cord Injury Professionals. He is educated in general studies and computer technology.
