Bronx Letters To Be The First Public School In The Bronx To Get A Climbing Wall with help from Orange Sparkle Ball
The Bronx Academy of Letters (Bronx, NY) has set a goal to earn $30,000 to purchase a climbing wall for their gym, which would make them the first Bronx public school to have one.
ATLANTA, GA, February 23, 2011 /Nonprofit PR News/ -- The Bronx Academy of Letters (Bronx, NY) has set a goal to earn $30,000 by the end of the 2010-2011 school year to purchase a climbing wall for their gym, which would make them the first public school in the Bronx to have one. The school wants to engage more students and increase physical activity opportunities, as well as integrate crucial success skills like learning how to build teams and set and achieve goals. "Physical activity improves kids' concentration, memory, and creativity. Having a climbing wall promotes that as well as teaches kids positive risk-taking, creative problem solving, and confidence building." Says Amy Applegate, Health Education and Physical Education Teacher at The Bronx Academy of Letters.
This project was launched by the Health and Physical Education Department at Bronx Letters and conceived by Amy Applegate. It's goal: to engage the community, raise awareness about health and physical activity and raise funds. With the generous help of Orange Sparkle Ball (http://www.orangesparkleball.com), a visual communications studio heavily focused on social design, an online fundraising campaign, anchored by the 5 to Climb site (http://www.5toclimb.com/) was launched on 1/12/11.
The site creatively uses a climbing wall element to track money donated, and with each donation the climber on the climbing wall moves up accordingly. As the total amount raised climbs, elements within the site are unlocked and viewable. The site cleverly incorporates health facts, as well as videos of the students and a Flickr photo gallery showing student pictures. Additionally, the site is heavily integrated with social media, with a 5 to Climb Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/5-to-Climb/170700932947748) and YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/5toClimb).
Orange Sparkle Ball (http://www.orangesparkleball.com) is a visual communications studio founded and led by designer Meaghan Kennedy with national and international clients in a broad range of fields.
