COLTS NECK, NJ, March 18, 2011 /Nonprofit PR News/ -- JUNTOS Collective embarked this week on its annual outreach trip to Guatemala. Seven student dancers from The Ailey School/Fordham University BFA in Dance Program are traveling with JUNTOS staff through Guatemala for a week of public dance performances of all-original choreography, teaching and community events for local children, the elderly and the general public.

Upon arrival, participants are spending their first days performing for the public in Antigua. Moving on to Quetzaltentango, the second largest city in Guatemala, participants teach dance workshops at local middle schools, followed by evening performances at several orphanages and retirement homes. The trip will conclude in Guatemala with performances in Totonicopan and in Quatzaltentango at the prominent Teatro Municipal. Children taught earlier in the week will open the program with pieces they created during the workshops.

JUNTOS Collective has partnered with Atrezzo Marketing of Quatzealtango who will finalize performances times, program itinerary and is advertising JUNTOS events in all three cities.

JUNTOS ("together" in Spanish) is a collective of performing artists committed to social justice and community outreach through dance. Founded in 2008 by college students, with participants hailing from four universities, the collective grants artists opportunities to teach and perform for the greater community in New York City, San Francisco and abroad. Objectives include artistic and choreographic growth through social justice, community outreach and leadership, international exposure and intercultural exchange.

As an organization dedicated to these objectives, JUNTOS facilitates annual global outreach excursions. Currently, trips are held to Mexico and Guatemala with additional countries in the future. JUNTOS aims to bring together young peoples and leaders of diverse backgrounds by verbally and artistically exchanging cultural differences. Through the collective, dancers build friendships across borders, create new alliances, and provide projects of hope for the communities they visit.
