Orange County Women Executives Convene to Address the Nearly S9.6 Million Cost of Alzheimer's Disease on Local Businesses
The Alzheimer's Association, Orange County will host a forum for selected women executives of Orange County to discuss the severe financial impact that Alzheimer's disease is having on local businesses through lost employee productivity.
IRVINE, CA, March 17, 2011 /Nonprofit PR News/ -- The Alzheimer's Association, Orange County will host a forum for selected women executives of Orange County to discuss the severe financial impact that Alzheimer's disease is having on local businesses through lost employee productivity. The event will take place at the chapter offices in Irvine, Calif. on Wednesday, March 23, 2011.
Orange County is one of the hardest hit regions in the nation. Currently, 75,000 individuals in the county are affected by Alzheimer's or related dementia - or are at immediate risk. Another 33,500 people are family caregivers who work full or part time, with 60 percent of those workers reporting the need to take time off for their caregiving responsibilities — costing businesses $9,600,000 annually in-lost productivity. Statewide, the loss in Alzheimer's-related productivity jumps to $1.4 billion with 588,208 individuals affected by the disease — a number expected to double by 2030.
"We are focusing this event on women executives because, while they must confront the disease from a business point of view, some are now, or will in the future, also have to confront it as a caregiver," said Jim McAleer, president and CEO of Alzheimer's Association, O.C. "We value their insights from both perspectives."
Current statistics show that sixty-five percent of all those with Alzheimer's are women, and sixty percent of caregivers for persons with Alzheimer's are women.
The invitation-only breakfast will be hosted by the Alzheimer's Association, O.C. on Wednesday, March 23 from 7:45 - 9:30 a.m. at the chapter's offices at 17771 Cowan, Suite 200, Irvine, CA 92614. Jacqueline DuPont, CEO and gerontologist, DuPont Residential Care has graciously underwritten the event. For more information, contact Ann McDowell at 949.757.3714 or ann.mcdowell@alz.org.
