Non-Profit Organization Begins Work to Provide Disaster Relief Housing and Employment Opportunities
Haven Development International (HDI) will begin its first housing project on 08/29/11, the 6th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.
August 03, 2011 /Nonprofit PR News/ -- Haven Development International (HDI) will begin its first housing project on 08/29/11, the 6th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. They will bring together victims of natural disasters, volunteers, the disenfranchised and the underemployed to build and rebuild homes in New Orleans. Their goal is to help those who have been forgotten in the cleanup of Katrina.
Sayre, Pennsylvania - Haven Development International is the brainchild of Reverend Wayne H. Blow. It employs a comprehensive, multi-tiered plan designed to restore communities hit by natural disasters while creating opportunities for those that society has forgotten. HDI focuses on building and rebuilding homes, businesses and churches lost to natural disasters so that victims can once again live rich lives in vital communities.
HDI will use a combination of volunteers and disaster victims along with unemployed local workers, returning war veterans and recent parolees, creating jobs and training for individuals who may otherwise have difficulty finding work. The plan is for workers to operate much like the Civilian Conservation Corps of the Great Depression. HDI is also working toward the development of a non-profit credit union that will allow prospective homeowners to obtain low-cost mortgage loans with a minimum amount of red tape.
While HDI is beginning its efforts in New Orleans, it intends to expand its efforts into other disaster recovery areas around the United States such as Missouri, Alabama and Iowa. Eventually, HDI will reach out to countries such as Haiti, Japan, China, Chile and Sierra Leone. Its plans have received support from notable figures such as Assistant Secretary of LA State Department of Corrections Whalen Gibbs, who states, "This is an outside the box solution and this will work. It's quite obvious what we've done in the past hasn't worked."
