League of Women Voters of Northern Valley of New Jersey Announces 2011-2012 Board of Directors. Education Study Underway.
The League of Women Voters of Northern Valley in Bergen County, New Jersey presents its 2011-2012 board of directors. The organization is undertaking a study of the federal government's role in education.
LEONIA, NJ, October 30, 2011 /Nonprofit PR News/ -- The League of Women Voters of Northern Valley (LWVNV),a nonprofit drawing members from over 20 towns in Bergen County, New Jersey, announces the organization's 2011-2012 board of directors.
The 2011-2012 officers are as follows: Lucy Heller, first vice-president, Park Ridge; Joyce Luhrs, second vice-president, Leonia; Secretary, Fran Molnar, Tenafly; Carol S. Bernstein, Treasurer, Tenafly; and Vi Ruschman, Fundraising Chair, Park Ridge.
Elected directors are:
• Nike Prieston Bach, director and public relations chair, from Leonia;
• Lorraine Cohen, director, from Englewood;
• Naomi Epstein, director, from Demarest;
• Bobbie Hass, director and LWVNV Bulletin Editor, from Tenafly;
• Betty Frank, director and Voter Services Chair-Englewood, from Englewood;
• Kay Kim, director from Norwood;
• Anne Lander, director, from Harrington Park; and
• Shirley Shapiro, director, from Tenafly.
Appointed directors are Lucille Shapiro, director, and Ann Moscovitz, past president and director, both from Fort Lee.
Education Study
The LWVNV, a volunteer-driven organization, is currently participating in a nationwide League study of the "The Role of the Federal Government in Public Education". Members of the LWVNV studying the various aspects of this issue and serving on the LWVNV's Education Committee include Kay Kim, Nike Prieston Bach, Fran Molnar, Naomi Epstein, Lorraine Cohen, and Ann Lander.
The LWVNV draws members from Alpine, Bergenfield, Cliffside Park, Closter, Cresskill, Demarest, Dumont, Edgewater, Emerson, Englewood, Englewood Cliffs, Fort Lee, Hackensack, Harrington Park, Haworth, Hillsdale, Leonia, Montvale, New Milford, Northvale, Norwood, Old Tappan, Park Ridge, Tenafly, Washington Township, and Woodcliff Lake.
About the League of Women Voters
The League of Women Voters (League) was an outgrowth of the 19th amendment passed in 1920 giving women the right to vote. With over 1,000 local Leagues throughout the country, the organization gained prestige by maintaining its nonpartisanship; sponsoring candidates' forums for local, state and national elections; holding registration drives; disseminating nonpartisan information on candidates; and holding public meetings to discuss current issues.
