Pair of Wisconsin Women Collect More than 7,000 Pairs of Shoes for Haiti
Local Friends deciding to make a difference have until Nov. 10 to collect more shoes for 2011 Soles4Souls Travel Challenge
LUTZ, FL, October 21, 2011 /Nonprofit PR News/ -- Alaina Pompa and friend Rebecca Pettit signed up to participate in the 2011 Soles4Souls Travel Challenge to benefit the people of Haiti. Soles4Souls is a Tennessee-based nonprofit organization that distributes shoes to people in need. Since 2005 they have given away 14 million pairs of shoes to people in over 127 countries.
The friends were moved by the news of the need for shoes in many places around the world, specifically in many African countries as well as in Haiti and India. The friends have been longing to get involved and this opportunity compelled them to act. "I have a deep desire to care for those in crisis situations both locally and around the world. For several years God has been speaking to me though scripture specifically about caring for the needs of the poor," Pompa said of her desire to participate in the challenge.
The duo is off to a great start, but time is running short for them to collect more pairs of shoes. The goal of this challenge is to collect as many pairs of shoes as possible between now and Nov.10; so far they have collected 7,000 pairs of shoes. "We are hoping to collect another 13,000 in the next three weeks," said Pompa.
The winner of the challenge will travel to Haiti to help deliver the containers of shoes on a distribution trip to Haiti scheduled for 2012.
Both new and gently worn shoe donations are acceptable and can be dropped off at several locations in Green Bay, Wisconsin:
