Neighborhood Service Organization Seeks Hosts for 'A Place to Call Home' Housewarming Parties
Community-wide effort to raise the remaining $10 million needed to complete renovations on the NSO Bell Building
FARMINGTON HILLS, MI, November 19, 2011 /Nonprofit PR News/ -- Neighborhood Service Organization (NSO), a nonprofit human services agency, has launched A Place to Call Home, a campaign intended to raise the remaining $10 million needed to complete $50 million in renovations on the NSO Bell Building, formerly the Michigan Bell Building on Oakman Boulevard in Detroit.
The facility, slated to open in 2012, will house 155 one-bedroom apartments for formerly homeless adults, supportive care services and NSO's headquarters.
"We hope that our neighbors in the community take part in the A Place to Call Home campaign," said Ray C. Johnson, chairman of the NSO Board of Directors. "The purpose of the NSO Bell Building is to help transform people's lives and give them a place that they truly can call their own."
A Place to Call Home consists of two initiatives whereby metro Detroiters can get involved.
Housewarming Parties
This initiative seeks individuals, families, businesses, clubs, schools and community organizations in metro Detroit to host parties to collect donations of new, household items needed to make each apartment a home in the NSO Bell Building.
Now through March 31, 2012, those interested in serving as a Housewarming Party host are invited to plan themed affairs, leveraging existing gatherings, such as holiday or birthday parties, or engage family and friends online to donate items found on apartment-specific registries at Target stores. Each registry consists of approximately 100 items totaling $750.
NSO will assign each registered host an apartment and a liaison to assist with the party planning process. Hosts will have the opportunity to help set up the apartments and, later, will be honored at a NSO Bell Building tour in fall 2012.
Apartment Sponsorships
NSO is seeking sponsorships of $5,000, which will completely furnish one unit and provide vital support services for occupants. Thanks to a generous challenge grant provided by Art Van, the first 25 apartments can be sponsored for $4,000 with Art Van contributing $1,000 per apartment.
Sponsors will receive recognition, including commemorative plaques posted by the apartment door and displayed in the building's public lobby, along with a tribute tile in the lobby, and an invitation to a ribbon-cutting ceremony in fall 2012.
