Penny L. Hartin to be Listed among Industry Leaders

Penny Hartin has spent a total of 30 years in nonprofit management and has led the World Blind Union as its CEO these last five years

    EAST YORK, ON, CANADA, May 18, 2011 /Nonprofit PR News/ -- Penny Hartin, Chief Executive Officer of World Blind Union, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in nonprofit management and partnership collaboration.

After serving as a director in three provinces for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, CNIB, Ms. Hartin joined the World Blind Union in order to advance the issues of blind persons, and especially blind women, at the international level. She is blind herself and has spent 30 years in nonprofit management, including 20 years advocating for the rights of blind women.

The World Blind Union represents the needs of blind and partially sighted people in 190 different countries and Ms. Hartin leads this human services organization as the CEO, a position she has held for five years. She works with six regions of the union and represents organizational and consumer needs not only to the government and community organizations, but also within the private sector. Ms. Hartin is an experienced senior manager in the nonprofit, voluntary sector, and has worked at the community, provincial, national and international levels managing multilevel organizations. A strategic thinker, she is focused on consumer-driven values and has a great record of achievement in service planning and development, and forging strategic alliances to optimize organizational and customer opportunities. In addition, she is a strong leader who nurtures positive and effective relationships with staff members, volunteers, customers, donors and the public.

Ms. Hartin completed graduate-level coursework and holds bachelor's degrees in education and languages. She has also been awarded an honorary doctorate of laws. She intends to continue building alliances through the work of her organization.
